Farms typically have exactly what solar needs: large unshaded roof areas, daytime operational loads (irrigation, cold storage, processing), and often multiple electricity accounts across one property. That combination unlocks revenue opportunities most sectors can't access.

Feed-In Tariff (FIT)

Where your municipality offers a feed-in tariff, excess solar energy exported to the grid earns you a credit per kWh — effectively turning your farm into a small power producer. Ample Power handles all the metering, compliance and interconnection documentation.

Notional Metering

Notional (or virtual net) metering allows one solar installation to offset consumption across multiple accounts on the same property. A single large array on a pack house can offset the pack house meter, the cold room meter and the workers' quarters — netting all three against one system.

Load Matching

Irrigation pumps, cold storage, grain dryers and processing equipment are typically day-time loads — aligning perfectly with solar generation. A well-designed system minimises battery requirements by matching generation to load, reducing capital cost and payback period.

NOTIONAL METERING — HOW IT WORKS

A single solar installation is registered as the "generation meter." The surplus generation is allocated across the farm's other electricity accounts in proportion to their consumption — as if each building had its own solar system, without the cost of multiple installations.

Offsets: Pack house (Meter 1) + Cold room (Meter 2) + Irrigation (Meter 3) + Housing (Meter 4) — all from a single grid connection point.
