South Africa’s grid challenges go well beyond load-shedding — which is less frequent today than it once was. Voltage spikes, brownouts, phase failures, and unstable supply are everyday realities on SA’s grid. Each one of these events triggers an inverter transfer.

With a conventional hybrid inverter, the system only manages your critical loads sub-board. The rest of your home — geyser, air conditioning, pool pump — is invisible to it. SigenEnergy works differently.

Conventional Hybrid Inverter

The DB is split into a “critical loads” sub-board (inverter-backed: lights, plugs, router) and a “non-critical” section (geyser, stove, air con) that remains on grid only. Non-essential circuits cannot use solar power automatically, and they go dark during any grid failure. The inverter is blind to more than half the home’s consumption.
